Happy Gas Dentist in Salisbury

Feeling nervous about visiting the dentist? You are not alone. Many patients feel anxious about dental treatment, especially if they have had an uncomfortable experience in the past, have a strong gag reflex, or need a longer dental procedure.

At Salisbury Dentist, we offer nitrous oxide sedation, commonly known as happy gas, to help suitable patients feel calmer and more relaxed during dental treatment.

Nitrous oxide is a light form of dental sedation delivered through a small mask placed over your nose. You remain awake and able to respond to the dentist, but many patients feel more relaxed, less tense, and more comfortable throughout their appointment.

For many nervous patients, happy gas can make the difference between avoiding dental care and finally being able to complete the treatment they need.

FAQ's - Happy Gas (Nitrous Oxide Sedation)

How it works?

Nitrous oxide sedation is a form of minimal sedation used in dentistry to help reduce anxiety and discomfort during dental procedures. It is mixed with oxygen and breathed in through a comfortable nose mask. The Australian Dental Association describes nitrous oxide sedation as a commonly used technique for helping anxious dental patients when administered by appropriately trained dentists. Unlike being “put to sleep”, happy gas does not usually make you unconscious. You are still awake, can hear the dentist, and can respond to instructions during treatment.

Why choose Happy Gas?

Nitrous oxide sedation is popular because it is: Gentle It helps many patients feel calmer without needing deeper sedation. Fast acting It usually starts working within a few minutes. Adjustable The level can be changed during treatment depending on how you are feeling. Short recovery time The effects generally wear off quickly once the gas is stopped, although your dentist will confirm when you are ready to leave. Helpful for anxious patients It can make dental care feel more manageable for patients who would otherwise delay or avoid treatment.

How much does it cost?

The cost is approximately $108 per 30 minutes or part thereof, and it will vary depending on the appointment length and type of treatment required. Our team can provide a quote before treatment so you know the expected fees in advance.

Is happy gas safe?

Nitrous oxide sedation (happy gas) has been widely used in dentistry for many years and is generally considered safe when used appropriately by trained dental practitioners. However, it is not suitable for everyone. Your dentist will review your medical history, medications, pregnancy status, breathing/nasal issues, and any relevant health conditions before recommending it. Patients with certain medical conditions may need a different approach or may be advised not to use nitrous oxide sedation.

*Happy Gas is not suitable for everyone, and it is recommended that advice it sought from your dentist.
